Little Bro Missed Big Sis

Saturday night Niamh had a sleepover at Jaya’s house. After we put Finn to bed, Steve found him in Niamh’s room, getting in to her bed, with all his blankets and Pig with him.

Tonight, when getting the kids ready for bed, we couldn’t find Niamh’s toothbrush. Niamh said she didn’t bring it to Jaya’s so she didn’t leave it there (guess she didn’t brush her teeth). We searched and searched and came up with nothing.

Then, Steve put his hand under Finn’s pillow and felt something prickly. There it was! Niamh’s toothbrush under Finn’s pillow.

Looks like Finn missed his Big Sister while she was gone doing Big Sister and Best Friend stuff.  He loves her and her toothbrush.

Don’t Mess With The Missus

Steve and I got in a bit of an argument about whether or not I can go to New York this Fall to visit with 4 of my favorite people.

He said, “No. Blah Blah Blah.”

I got tired of hearing, “No.”

So, I let him have it.

Wipe that smirk off your face, Pal. Or, I’ll make you regret it.

Just kidding. Its still nothing but marital bliss around here. I ask for something and Steve never says “no”. He simply fell off the roof and a 50lb bag of roofing tiles landed on his face. That’s all, nothing to worry about.

No Woman No Cry Like You’ve Never Heard It Before

*Cynthia, this one’s for you.*

I don’t know what kind of emotion this will stir up for anyone else. For me, its nostalgia. I can vividly remember recording this way back in 1993 when I worked as a healthcare volunteer in Brazil for Amigos de las Americas. I was 18 years old, digging latrines in the town of Dom Marcolino, Rio Grande do Norte. No need to delve in to the whole experience. Just enjoy this video. I think its beautiful.

I was very attached to the 2 little girls, sisters, you see in the video. They followed us everywhere. I think I stared at them all the time. They were stunning.

COME ON DOWN!!!!!!!!

I’ve mentioned that I was a contestant on Price Is Right, right?

Its one of those interesting facts about myself that I like to throw around. Want to know some others? Ok, Ummmmm, ummmmmm, I can’t burp. A Past Life Regressionist once told me that I was Charles Lindbergh’s flying buddy in a past life. Yep, that’s it.

The story goes like this. I planned an outing for a group of nurses I worked with at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Everyone gets interviewed as a possible Contestant before entering the show. I guess they just saw something they liked when they met me. What can I say. OK, I was 36 weeks pregnant with Niamh, I was dressed in scrubs, and I was the one who organized the group.

I was NOT expecting to be called. I did NOT want to be called. I saw myself as a huge liability running down the aisle if called. But, guess what. I got called.

I’m pretty sure You Tube is going to take the video off due to copyright so hurry and view!

I didn’t win but I got some nice parting gifts which I sold on ebay.  I also have a sweet autographed photo of Bob Barker on my refrigerator. It was totally worth it.

She’s Chosen A New Career Path

Niamh announced last night, “Mama, I think I want to be a Professional Dancer when I grow up.”

Oh, Goodness. How do I break it to her? I was the only cheerleader that couldn’t do the splits and her Auntie Mairead needed us to count 8 counts out loud when she was a young aspiring dancer because she couldn’t hear the intrinsic beat of the music. And, there was my dance class in Ecuador. Genetics are not on her side, and I’m not even considering how the Westover side of the family affects her. (I don’t want to offend them.)

We’ve gone this route once before. Niamh was in ballet 2 years ago and complained each week as we drove to class. “I don’t want to go to ballet. All that stretching!”

I didn’t want to discourage her so I told her it might be a good idea to practice stretching every day to limber up a bit.

017 018She was in pain. As soon as this season of Dancing With The Stars is over, I think the dream will be forgotten and she will go back to the original plan of becoming a Princess or a Mom or a Nurse.

*PS. I promise to learn how to use my camera soon.
